Deferred Billing & Expenses During Your Recovery
In the State of Utah, auto insurance policies include personal injury protection (PIP) benefits. These benefits pay immediately for a set amount of the medical expenses associated with your accident. You do not have to settle your claim to get these benefits, they are standard. However, there are times when we may need to work with healthcare providers to accept deferred billing and expenses on a lien basis. During a consultation at our Ogden, UT, practice, our attorneys will discuss scenarios and situations when this may be the proper course of action.
Unfortunately, once your PIP benefits are exhausted, you are responsible for your medical expenses. Of course, our attorneys ensure that in the end you receive compensation in your settlement for these out-of-pocket expenses. However, we understand it is difficult to pay up front for medical services, but we can help. In the event that you do not have medical insurance and are unable to financially afford medical treatment, we are able to work with many healthcare providers in accepting your case on a “lien basis”. This means that payment to those providers will be deferred or delayed until the settlement of your case, at which time monies will be deducted from your proceeds to pay for your medical expenses. A lien will allow you to receive medical treatment even if you cannot afford to pay for it at the time it is rendered.
If you have major medical health insurance coverage individually or through your place of work, you are entitled to medical treatment. However, your policy may require that you see physicians who are members of your Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). If you have medical insurance that is paying for your treatment, always remember to make sure the provider you are seeing is covered on your plan to prevent financial hardship. Our staff specializes in making sure your bills are handled appropriately.
